In Florida Now

Okay after 20 straight hours of driving we are now in Sarasota Florida having a wonderful time relaxing. We are staying with a family who owns an auto dealership and they have some of the sickest cars I have ever seen. They have a brand new Camaro just like the one in Transformers and, my personal favorite, an M6 BMW that is scarlet red with matching rims. We get to drive around the piece of junk Escalade all week 🙂 I’m jk it’s super duper smooth and an incredible car.

For now we are just chillin and relaxin. Got some wonderful food at a seafood restaurant and one of the staff members I am on vacation with is a 5 star cook and is going to prepare a great meal for us tomorrow night. Anyway I’m here until Tuesday, hope everyone is doing great back at home. I miss you all.

Going to Florida for a week!

Okay so some staff members here are going on vacation down in Florida where a well to do family puts them up for a week once a year. Well guess what? They need a driver so they invited me to come along on their vacation, all I have to do is make the 19 hour drive 🙂

In other news, New York shopping is the best. I got two new suits, a black one with pins and a grey one. All is well and I now have less than a month left here. Time is flying!

Internet has been out for awhile

Okay okay. So having a good time, making some good friends with the guys here and the volunteers.

I have some people who I would love to ask you guys to pray for

Billy Cruz – He was a student at the mission but her decided to leave for his own reasons. Pray that he will be able to stay the man who seeks wisdom that he is and that he doesn’t fall back into his old habits and start relying on drugs for his salvation.

Bryan – Bryan is from Boulder and often shows up to get food. He is living at a three quarter house right now and is looking to start going to school. Pray that he stays focused on achieving his education and seeks God.

Those are some of the guys that really really need it. So it would be great if you could pray for those guys.

Start Of My Streetball Career

So today was the official start of my NYC Streetball Career. I balled with the guys at the mission and with some other dudes at Sarah D Roosevelt Park. Here is the park. Remember the name of it cause you will hear all about it when I make it to the NBA.

IMG_0663As for how I did, here is a picture…. I am not in this picture for I am being dunked on ruthlessly

I also got to be a tour guide for the new volunteer group which was fun. Cool group of kids.

Very Cool Occurrence Today

Something happened today that very much reminded me of a Bible story and felt straight out of the book. First I’m gonna post the short Bible story about Gideon and his Army of 32,00, which God cut all the way down to 300 solders so that Israel would know God’s power in victory.

1 Early in the morning, Jerub-Baal (that is, Gideon) and all his men camped at the spring of Harod. The camp of Midian was north of them in the valley near the hill of Moreh. 2 The LORD said to Gideon, “You have too many men for me to deliver Midian into their hands. In order that Israel may not boast against me that her own strength has saved her, 3 announce now to the people, ‘Anyone who trembles with fear may turn back and leave Mount Gilead.’ ” So twenty-two thousand men left, while ten thousand remained.
4 But the LORD said to Gideon, “There are still too many men. Take them down to the water, and I will sift them for you there. If I say, ‘This one shall go with you,’ he shall go; but if I say, ‘This one shall not go with you,’ he shall not go.”

5 So Gideon took the men down to the water. There the LORD told him, “Separate those who lap the water with their tongues like a dog from those who kneel down to drink.” 6 Three hundred men lapped with their hands to their mouths. All the rest got down on their knees to drink.

7 The LORD said to Gideon, “With the three hundred men that lapped I will save you and give the Midianites into your hands. Let all the other men go, each to his own place.” 8 So Gideon sent the rest of the Israelites to their tents but kept the three hundred, who took over the provisions and trumpets of the others.

Okay so to the story. Something we regularly do at the Bowery is an outreach mission. We load up a giant truck with food and take a van full of volunteers to different parks and projects throughout New York. We usually do this with the help of about 15 volunteers and it is still often hectic because of the high volume of food we are giving away.

Today, things were not looking good. No volunteers had shown up and no guys from the house were willing/able to help us out. On top of that, Thursday is without a doubt the biggest day for outreach, we load up and deliver the most food. So instead of having 15 volunteers plus staff members, we had 4 people and one big truck loaded with food.

We served over 136 people in Brooklyn with groceries for the week. When we showed up, volunteers from the line of homeless/needy jumped out of line to help us unload and keep order. We took the perfect amount of food, and even found some candy bagged up to give to the children. It really was a magical feeling day because of that and I’m blown away looking back at it. P.S. It was raining all morning, but stopped as we pulled up to the park.

Random, Stupid Post

Hi everyone! I wanted to post today but it was a very busy day filled with much work and too many volunteers!!! I must say I’m getting good experience managing people though because I’ve been having to lead a new group of strangers everyday to work hard and complete some large tasks for no compensation. Thats managerial skill!

Also, just a message to my Boulder people. I miss you guys sooo much!!!!!!

Anyway, to the random part. I was eating cereal today, and I was like, “What is the name of this delicious, crispy, hexagon shaped cereal?” Turns out… SNV30072

My Celebrity Encounters In New York

Okay so I have had 3 celebrity encounters since coming to New York. No one really big but I’m excited about today’s because I’m a big fan of his.
Turns out me and Jim Gaffigan work out at the same gym. He was nice, but we only talked for a second. I didn’t want to bother him when he was getting his workout on. I’m guessing I’ll prolly see him around sometime again. For those of you who don’t know, here is some Gaffigan Gold!

I have also ran across the rapper K’Naan and TV Personality Michael Ian Black 🙂
